|
Outback Spirit Rejuvenating Water is a new range of refreshing, lightly carbonated, flavoured waters that are actually good for you! What makes these waters unique and authentically Australian is the inclusion of our exclusive Kakadu Plum concentrate. The Kakadu Plum has been wild harvested from the Top End of Australia by our Indigenous supply chain partners. Its a highly nutritious fruit with high levels of antioxidant and Vitamin C. From the pure Kakadu Plum fruit we have developed a natural fruit concentrate with an amazing ORAC value of 1248 (umol trollox equivalent per 1 g of fresh weight) Consequently the Outback Spirit Rejuvenating water range is rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C. Additionally these waters are low GI, have only natural flavours and colours and are naturally sweetened 100% from the fruit making them a naturally healthy and low sugar alternative to highly sweetened drinks. What are Antioxidants?Antioxidants are compounds found naturally in our bodies and in plant based foods such as fruits, vegetables and nuts. As the name suggests, they help fight the effects of oxidation by neutralizing damaging oxygen free radicals that form in our bodies. Without antioxidants, free radicals react rapidly with cellular membranes causing them to function poorly or die. Oxygen free radicals have been implicated in the development of several degenerative diseases including cancer and heart disease, highlighting the need to consider increasing antioxidant levels in our diet. Antioxidant Levels in Kakadu Plum and Other Australian Native Fruits.Australian native fruits have been found to be an excellent source of antioxidants. A number of surveys measured. The antioxidant activity in Australian bush fruits. The results showed that bush fruits such as Kakadu Plum have much higher antioxidant components (almost 4 times) than that commonly reported for blueberries. A comparison of antioxidant activities of some Australian native fruits found in Outback Spirit Rejuvenating Waters with that found in common fruits are shown on Figure 1 above. Other Health Enhancing Properties of Australian Bush FruitsApart from being rich in antioxidants, Kakadu Plum, Wild Rosella and Wild Limes are also rich in Vitamin C. In fact, Kakadu plum is the world’s highest source of natural Vitamin C, containing up to 5300mg of Vitamin C per 100g of fruit. In comparison, oranges contain just 50mg of vitamin C per 100g fruit. Research has also found that these fruits are also high in the essential minerals zinc, magnesium, calcium and iron. Rejuvenating WaterAll Outback Spirit Rejuvenating Waters contain our remarkable Kakadu Plum Concentrate. The range of all 5 Outback Spirit’s Rejuvenating Water, as tested by Food Science Australia all exhibited high antioxidant levels. When compared to selected samples of well known brands of beverages taken from selected supermarkets , all 5 Outback Spirit Rejuvenating Waters show at least comparable to competitors’ highest ORAC valued drinks or significantly higher ORAC values. For example our Apple, Elderberry, Pomegranate & Blueberry with Kakadu Plum Rejuvenating Water records an antioxidant value 4-6 times greater than a competitor brand’s flavoured water and up to 50 times that of a commercial tea drink. * Testing done on a number of samples, over a period of months. These results reflect the ORAC value of the commercially manufactured beverage at time of manufacture.
** This testing was done on off the shelf samples and does not take into account any deterioration due to time, handling etc and as such may not provide a reliable comparison to the manufactured OS samples. *** Outback Spirit is the registered trademark of Robins Foods Pty Ltd. ORAC (the Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity) test is one of the most common ways to measure the levels of antioxidants in foods and beverages. An ORAC value denotes the level of antioxidant activity per serve.
